RC helicopters are fun for a party

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

Everyone loves to have parties at their home, whether it’s for a children’s party, a birthday party or even a house warming. Getting everyone round your house and having a good laugh is what friends are all about.

But what games do you play at parties when you’re in a group of people? You could play board games, DVD games or computer games. They’re all fun to play in groups. However, what about playing with RC models such as radio control helicopters, RC cars and other RC gadgets?

These sort of games aren’t just the domain of young children, or men with beards in fields. Radio control helicopters are fun for everyone and make great party games. You could have two or more RC helicopters and race them around inside the home, going from one room to the next. Or you could have a game of control, where someone has to take off and land, and performing tricks on the way.

Try electric helicopters for parties instead of the more usual party games, you’ll find that they’re a lot of fun and everyone will have a good time.

RC Helicopter instead of an Easter Egg

Monday, March 30th, 2009

Easter is on the horizon and it’s the time of year that children typically gorge themselves on chocolate. As the UK already has a problem with child obesity, children eating huge quantities of Easter Eggs isn’t really the best way to promote healthy eating. Also, as Easter Eggs are always very expensive considering the actual amount of chocolate in them, they’re not particularly good value for money.

Of course, you don’t have to buy chocolate eggs for Easter. You could buy other gifts that are better value for money, gifts that last much longer and gifts that are better for your health.

For example, you could try a radio controlled helicopter instead of a chocolate egg. It’s much more healthy to play with a radio controlled helicopter in the garden than it is to hunt for eggs around the house, and eat them when you find them.

Think of your children and your grandchildren’s health when it comes to presents this Easter, and avoid the usual chocolate eggs in favour of something that will help them become more active. RC helicopters allow you to play with them inside the home and outside, and don’t add any inches to the waistline.

An RC Helicopter is for life, not just for Christmas

Sunday, March 29th, 2009

They say that animals are for life rather than being for Christmas as a way of making sure that you know looking after a pet is a long term commitment. This is true, but it’s also the same for radio controlled helicopters and other RC models. No, obviously RC helicopters don’t need to be fed and taken to the vets, but RC helicopters are the sort of toys that when you get into them, you’ll be into them for a long time.

Hence the ‘for life, not just for Christmas’.

When you enter the world of RC models you’ll want to learn more about them, you’ll want to become better at controlling them and you’ll want to improve your RC models with accessories and decals.

As well as the models themselves, there are also all of the radio controlled clubs throughout the UK that you can attend. These clubs are open for fans of RC models who want to chare their interests with others, and learn from others how they can improve their models.

The social scene around RC models, whether they’re RC helicopters or cars, is a very vibrant scene full of interesting people.

RC Helicopters for when you’re bed ridden

Saturday, March 28th, 2009

Everyone ends up bed ridden at some stage in their life, whether it’s for a short term due to illness or for a longer period due to an operation, or longer term sickness. It’s very frustrating because you want to get up and walk around, you want to go outside, you want to be anywhere other than in your bed counting the ceiling tiles.

When you are bed ridden there are certain things you can do to while the time away until you’re able to get up. The most common thing is to play video games, on systems such as the PS3 or Xbox 360, or even the handheld consoles such as the DS or the PSP.

While these are great to kill a few hours, they’re not the best things for your eyes, especially as you’re in a predominantly dark room anyway. A better idea to play with a Micro RC helicopter, as they can be launched from the bed you’re laying in, rather than have to take them outside or bend down to the floor. They’re very entertaining for someone who can’t get out of bed, and another great thing you can do with them is to fly them out of an open window and back in again. It will give the person who is bed ridden a small sense of freedom, through the radio controlled helicopter.

Draganflyer X6 RC helicopter and the police

Friday, March 27th, 2009

We reported some weeks ago how the Draganflyer X6 RC helicopter was the first of its kind to be used by the police. The RC helicopter has been picked up by the Saskatoon Police Service in the USA to be used in crime scenes for photographing evidence. It is believed that by using the RC helicopter they’ll be able to photograph scenes much quicker than they would if they had to erect cranes.

The RC helicopter was also used by police in Ontario, the Ontario Provincial Police, when they photographed the scene at a murder in Kenora, Canada on February 21st. The use of a radio controlled helicopter in this manner is the first time that an unmanned vehicle was used to collate evidence in North America.

Controlling the Dragonflyer X6 for police work is a two man job, with one police officer controlling the flight of the vehicle and another controlling the camera, so that it can zoom and take the photographs.

Constable Marc Sharpe stated:

Having used a fixed wing UAV since 2007, I could see the potential for great benefits to our forensic support operations. It gave us the ability to collect aerial evidence quickly and at minimum cost. However, it also became apparent that in order to improve and expand operational effectiveness, an optimal UAV would need certain attributes. It would need to be small and light, have Vertical Take Off and Landing VTOL capabilities, have a GPS hold system while hovering, be constructed of exceptionally strong materials and be completely transportable.

Flying an RC helicopter

Thursday, March 26th, 2009

If you’ve never flown a radio controlled helicopter before you could be forgiven for thinking that it’s very difficult. After all, pilots who fly planes and real helicopters train for years and earn a lot of money to do their job, and if you ever go on flying lessons the controls for both a plane and a helicopter look intimidating to say the least.

This doesn’t mean that a radio controlled helicopter is difficult to fly though. Far from it. RC helicopters are extremely easy to fly, and can be picked up and flown with relatively high skill levels by a complete novice.

If you buy a Micro RC helicopter you’ll be able to open the box, charge it up and start flying straight away, without needing to train or seek advice from anyone else.

The best thing is that you can fly RC helicopters inside the home, so you don’t even need to go outside to use one. You can perform laps of your front room without fear of damaging the helicopter because even if you bump it into the wall or a window, the RC helicopter is generally robust enough to survive such impacts.

RC helicopter meets video camera

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

RC helicopters are great fun. You can fly them inside the house, you can fly them in the garden and you can fly them in fields, or in the woods through the trees. It’s a simple toy, based on nature’s dragonfly, and is great fun to use.

However, a radio controlled helicopter can be made even more enjoyable when you mix with it another type of gadget; a video camera. Video cameras are equally enjoyable and fun to use as you can record your friends mucking about, make your own home movies, record your family at get-togethers and generally annoy people buy shoving a camera in their face at every opportunity.

When you mix a video camera and a radio controlled helicopter you’re creating something extra special, something that affords you some genuine entertainment. With a video camera on an RC helicopter you’re able to record video of things you couldn’t otherwise record, such as footage from very high angles, or of the top of your house. You can record videos flying through your house, out into the garden and over the fence.

Imagine how much fun that could be.

RC helicopters for the garden

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

One of the best things about radio controlled helicopters is that you can play with them both indoors and outdoors. Unlike the RC helicopters of some years ago, which were very heavy, very noisy and very expensive (not to mention huge) you can fly today’s Micro RC helicopters outside and inside, as they’re small and easy to manage.

While this is good news for those that don’t like to venture out into the big wide world, and like to stay indoors where it’s warm, for those who like to get out, RC helicopters offer the opportunity to do this too.

You can fly RC helicopters outside in the smallest of space, such as a small back garden, or even from a roof terrace or balcony. This is where they’re much better than RC cars for example, for where a car requires some space to manoeuvre, an RC helicopter just requires the space it occupies to take off, and then it’s able to fly around in the sky without any trouble.

So if a garden is something you don’t have, don’t worry, as you can launch an RC helicopter from a confined space like a balcony, or even through a large window, and fly it in your own personal ‘airspace garden’.

RC helicopters in the office

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

In the hustle bustle of the office world, stress is a very common. People working in an office environment have to cope with difficult tasks and tight deadlines, meaning they’re sometimes very tightly wound. For this reason, the world of office related gadgets and toys is a very large and profitable one, with stress buster balls, desktop racing games and USB gadgets a very common site on people’s workstations.

Another great gadget for offices is the RC helicopter, Micro RC helicopter to be precise. They’re really small, quiet to fly and can be launched from a desktop. They’re so small in fact that you can land them on the top of your computer monitor.

Picture the scene, it’s a busy office with several people sat at their desks, and then suddenly an RC helicopter takes off from the desk across the room, circles the office and land back where it started from. Then several RC helicopters all take off in the office and begin flying around the room. It’s like an air show in the office.

Nothing beats stress like flying miniature RC models around the office in formation, trying not to crash into each other as they go.

Will I be able to fly an RC helicopter?

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009

If you’ve never flown a radio controlled helicopter, or any kind of RC flying toy before, you may be wondering if it’s easy to pick up, and whether you’d be able to do it. As with all things in life, there are different types of RC helicopters, some more easy to fly than others, but the simplest of these, the Micro RC helicopters, are incredibly easy to fly. In fact, they’re so easy to fly, that even a small child with no prior experience, or an elderly person, would be able to fly one expertly.

Mini RC helicopters are very small, very lightweight and very cheap. They’re also quite robust, so should you happen to crash one into the wall or land a little heavy, you shouldn’t have to worry about damaging it.

As well as being easy to fly, they can also be flown indoors. In fact, most Micro RC helicopters are to be flown indoors only, as they’re so light that can’t operate in even the slightest breeze. This means that you can sit on your sofa and fly an RC helicopter around the room without too much bother.
