The main benefits of the 2.4GHz frequency

Over the past few articles we have looked at the key differences between the traditionally-used 35MHz radio system and the increasingly popular 2.4GHz frequency. There are a few benefits of the more modern system, which we will now be considering.

Some of these are more obvious, like the fact that it eliminates the risk of interference with RC aircraft as well as other electrical devices. There are also other more unnoticeable benefits such as the high data rate which we looked at in the last article.

There are a few other more benefits to add. This 2.4 GHz system also uses less power than the older system. It generally requires fewer batteries, plus they last a great deal longer. This more efficient use of power actually helps you to save money.

Finally, because the 2.4GHz radio system works on a high frequency, the wave length is shorter and therefore, so is the antenna. This means the antenna is much more manageable and reduces the risk of it catching on something and getting bent out of shape.

As you would expect, the 2.4GHz frequency is a bit more expensive. The actual price can depend on the channel of helicopter. It is up to you which of these you decide to go for, but at least now you can make an informed choice and decide if the additional benefits of 2.4GHz are worth it for you.
